Roy van Brummelen completed his school education in 1983, and studied pharmacy at the University of Pretoria, obtaining the degree BPharm in 1987.

In 1990 he completed the degree MSc (Chemical Pathology), at the same university and in 1993 completed the degree PhD (Medical Science); describing a new biochemical cycle.

He presented papers at several international conferences and was first author and co-author of scientific publications, both nationally and internationally.

In 2003 was appointed as Professor Extraordinaire in the Faculty Health Sciences, Tshwane University of Technology, and in 2006 completed his second doctorate degree (Doctor Technologiae), in Biological Sciences at Tshwane University of Technology.

He is a co-founder of the pharmaceutical company; Biomox Pharmaceuticals of which he is still MD.
